Enjoy a lovely afternoon at sea with our expert crew and specially trained guides and naturalists and join in on the search for whales and dolphins!
First, make your way to our ticket office in the Old Harbour where you will exchange your pre-paid voucher for boarding tickets. Meet the crew in our Visitor Centre which doubles as a Wildlife Exhibition, located in a converted fishing vessel, permanently placed by the pier. Have a look around the showroom and learn all about the wildlife we are likely to encounter, check out our souvenir shop or grab a warm cup of coffee before boarding the whale watching boat.
On board you will find several outdoor viewing platforms, a heated indoor saloon with large windows, a cafeteria where you can buy light refreshments, toilet facilities and a cloak room where you can borrow our blankets and overalls for the duration of the tour. One of our excellent naturalist will give a commentary throughout the tour, notify you of any sightings, tell you all about the views on the horizon and educate you about the wildlife in our waters. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the crew!
The most common species we encounter in Faxaflói bay are minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises. Occasionally we see other species, but they are not as common. The whales are the most abundant in summer here in Reykjavík, giving us a great chance to enjoy and understand them in their natural environment while they are feeding on fish and krill near our shores.
As this is a wildlife excursion we can never guarantee or predict sightings of any kind, but in case we don’t encounter any whales or dolphins, we will not refund the tour price, but rather offer you a complimentary ticket so you can join us again another day (within 2 years) free of charge!
Safety is our number one priority and therefore the tour itinerary could get altered (often resulting in a longer tour) or it could get cancelled, depending on the weather and conditions at sea. In this case, we will contact you as soon as possible to let you know and offer you to rebook or get a full refund. Check our ‘Whale Diary‘ in the hours leading up to your tour for any additional updates.

We set sails from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík and head into Faxaflói bay in search for whales and other wildlife.
Fin whales are the second largest animals after the blue whale. Fin whales have been know to mate with blue whales and produce viable offspring. It is incredible to see the exhaled breath (blow) reaching 6-10 meters high just like a small geyser rising from the oceans surface and the long body that seems never ending as it dives back into the blue abyss.
